The Balvenie TUN 1509 Batch No.8 Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the final bottling in this long-running and impressive collection. Batch 8 combines 18 different casks, 5 first fill sherry butts, 4 refill sherry butts, 4 American oak barrels, and 5 American oak puncheons, each hand selected by David Stewart for their flavours and quality. This Scotch Whisky starts on bright citrus, like lemon tartlets and grapefruit juice, alongside nicely polished oak and very old cognac with elegant rancio notes. Later vanilla cake, marmalade, and hints of toffee come out. Golden raisins, subtle coconut, and whiffs of pine needles too. Honeyed onset, evolving towards tangerine, tinned pineapple, and apricots, as well as some sweet almond paste. Creamy, buttery vanilla from the bourbon casks, mixed with some caramelized toffee notes and oak spice from the sherry. Peppery notes grow stronger, and later also a few floral notes and herbal tea. The finish is long, with a faint bitter hint of oak char, gingerbread, thyme, vanilla, and wood.Alcohol Volume: 52.2%
